Wiring the Power Bus

Cronopower is the simplest and most flexible way to wire for motorized window treatments. The CAT5 based Power Bus can be daisy chained from motor to motor or split off into branches; any wiring layout is possible. Simply connect the PowerHub to the MotorTaps using CAT5 cable. One or both RJ45 ports on the PowerHub can be used and one or both RJ45 ports on the MotorTap can be used.

RJ45 Splitter

Use the optional RJ45 Splitter to split off the power bus into different branches. Any number of RJ45 Splitters can be used in a system.

Pinout for the RJ45 Connectors

Cronopower needs a straight through pinout to operate. We suggest picking a standard like 568A to avoid confusion.

  • Pin 1 - green/white

  • Pin 2 - green

  • Pin 3 - orange/white

  • Pin 4 - blue

  • Pin 5 - blue/white

  • Pin 6 - orange

  • Pin 7 - brown/white

  • Pin 8 - brown

Initiating A Charge

If for some reason a motor needs to be charged before it’s timed charge, a charge can be initiated using the user button.

  • To charge the motor plugged in to motor port 1 press and hold the user button until the green LED comes on (approximately 1 second) release the button and motor 1 will begin to charge. The LED will remain green while motor 1 charges.

  • To charge the motor plugged in to motor port 2 press and hold the user button until the blue LED comes on (approximately 3 seconds) release the button and motor 2 will begin to charge. The LED will remain blue while motor 2 charges.

*Note: If another motor on the power bus is currently charging when a manual charge is initiated, that motor will be kicked off the bus in order prioritize the motor where the charge was manually initiated. The motor that was charging will wait until the power bus is free and then resume charging when the power bus is free

Changing the Charging Interval

The default charge frequency is once every 3 months. If desired the charging interval can be adjusted to every 6 months months.

To change the charging interval press and hold the user button until the LED goes from green, to blue, then to red (approximately 6 seconds). Release the button and the LED will blink twice if the interval is set to every 6 months or once if the interval is set to every 4 months. Press and release the button to change the interval. The LED will blink once or twice to display the new charging interval. Another button press will cycle through the two interval options. After 4 seconds the MotorTap will go back to normal operation.

How To Monitor time till Next Charge

Press and release the user button (less than 1 second) and the LED will blink green for the number of months until the next scheduled charge for motor 1, then blink blue the number of months until the next scheduled charge for motor 2. partial months are rounded up, for example 3.5 months would blink 4 blinks.

How To Verify Power To The MotorTap

When the PowerHub is plugged into power and a MotorTap is first connected to the power bus the LED will blink with the firmware code, showing it is receiving power. If the LED does not blink when plugging in the power bus, check the cable with a cable checker to verify it is pinned out correctly. Power to the MotorTap can also be verified with a quick press and release (less than 1 second) of the user button. This will result in a blink showing the time until next charge.
